September 16th, 2010Rhone Rangers and More! The weather’s starting to cool, but around here Thursdays are getting hotter! For our third September tasting, we’re coming home to California, but saving Cabs, Chards, and Pinots for a bit later. This tasting highlights some star producers focusing on Rhone varietals, a new wave of so-called “Rhone Rangers.” Not only do we get to explore different grapes and regions, this also allows us to bring in and pour some juice that has completely blown us away but didn’t fit into any of our shelf spots. We’ve got a luscious Viognier from Jemrose, made by Michael Browne of Kosta Browne, and a wild white Schmitty and I flipped over a while back called Veritable Quandry. For reds we start with a silly deal on a Mouvedre-based blend that bowled over some top customers this past winter, than a Syrah made by CHWC-fave Joey Tensley with Colson Canyon fruit, and maybe the most lush and beautiful Cali Grenache I can remember, from new producer Broc Cellars in Sonoma.
