In between brainstorming, tubing and peach picking, the team and I managed to taste through quite a few wines at our staff retreat a couple of weeks ago. The first night, we enjoyed a case of wines from Eric Solomon. Schmitty and I picked some favorites from our April portfolio tasting in Boston and presented them to the rest of the gang. The verdict? There’s a pretty good reason that Solomon guy is one of the top importers of French and Spanish wines in the country! His combination of diverse selections, high quality and value puts him on our shortlist of top 4 importers.

(TONIGHT!!!) - FREE - 5-7pm - California! This month kicks off our FIRST First Friday Wine Tasting in Hillsborough. In honor of this monumental occasion, I've invited one of your favorites, Mr. Richard Haynes, to join us to showcase some of the incredible wines from California that his company distributes. Then, there's a 93 pt Cab for less than $50! I know it's Labor Day weekend and many of you are planning to leave town, but you should stop by here first. You will not be sorry. Tensley, Proprietary Blend "Camp 4 Blanc" 2009 Sale $22.99 90 pts Wine Advocate One of my loves is white Rhone. I love the interplay between Grenache Blanc and Roussanne that is unlike anything else. The problem is both grapes can be a bit fickle and need near-perfect conditions to ripen fully, even in the south of France. Which is why I look for options from California every chance I get! Ripeness isn’t an issue... |

Bonnet-Huteau, Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine "La Levraudiere" 2009
Sale $10.99 [Schmitty] As we’re winding down August, I always get a little blue. I love summer anyway, and Mrs. Schmitty’s a teacher, which means that she has to go back to work… which, in turn, means she doesn’t get as much time to bring my little girl by the store to say hello.
What always helps me, though, is food! I don’t mean eating my feelings—I mean that what comes after August is a string of “R” months… |
