A blend of Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet from Sonoma County, aged for eighteen months in neutral French oak barrels, this is the kind of wine that could reinvent California wines. It won't, because wineries are all to happy to charge $40+ for mediocre wines that all tote the varietal line, and there are plenty of customers will to pay for them. But imagine if wineries focused on the nexus between quality and quantity, charging less and selling more, to reach the same profit? I suppose you don't have to imagine... there are a handful of wineries doing it... so gobble up this offering from Ms. Bibiana and enjoy!
What to enjoy with? Way back in the day, when I was graduating culinary school, we would call the ideal food for this wine "Wine Country". That morphed to "California" and a few other names... today it is what we call "Farm to Table". And you thought that was a new thing? Nah... just a new name! Fresh, locally sourced ingredients, seasoned well and cooked simply. For example... local stone-ground grits nestling braised short-ribs and served with whatever veggies are still dotting the shelves - winter squash, turnips, carrots... hmmm... Darn I am hungry...
