Wondering what style of Rioja you are getting with this wine? Decanter sums it up perfectly…
“Supple, juicy, red-fruit tangy and endlessly drinkable, Artuke's everyday Rioja is about as far from the old and oaky Rioja stereotype as it's possible to get…” Decanter
Add to that the effusive praise of Wine Advocate and Tim Atkin…
“One of the most exciting vignerons of the region … the wines show the character of the place where they are born: true terroir wines.” - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate
“Always one of Rioja’s great bargains, this wonderfully juicy cuvée… is a classic…” – Tim Atkin, Master of Wine
A blend of 95% Tempranillo with 5% Viura from vines planted as far back as 1902! The fruit was meticulously hand-harvested and sorted. Winemaking is very much of the old-school, utilizing only native yeasts for whole cluster and whole berry fermentations, just the way these wines were made 200 years ago. Arturo and Kike use concrete tanks for maturation, introducing oxygen gradually but preserving the purity and freshness of the fruit. The results are superb. This juicy Tempranillo bounces from the glass with bright red berry aromas and notes of chalky clay minerals. Silky pure and ultra-fine on the palate, packed with summer red fruits, medium-bodied and texturally superior to other Riojas I taste at more than three times the price. It’s perfect at home as a stand alone glass or two after a long day and makes for a brilliant wine for food pairings too. Grilled meats, pasta dishes, roasted veg and poultry, seared Tuna even. As Tim Atkin puts it, this is “unwooded Rioja at its individual best.” Don’t miss it.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
"The textbook carbonic-maceration red 2025 Artuke was produced with 95% Tempranillo and 5% Viura grapes and has a moderate 13.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.5. It has bright aromas of strawberry and flowers, perfumed, aromatic, intoxicating but also light and fresh, open, clean and expressive. It's quite harmonious for its young age. It has a silky palate with velvety, unnoticeable tannins and is juicy, soft and tasty. 80,000 bottles produced. It was bottled the first week of January 2026 and kept in concrete until then." - Luis Gutiérrez
Vinous Media: 91 Points
"The 2025 Artuke is Tempranillo with a touch of Viura, fermented whole cluster via carbonic maceration and aged 4–6 months in concrete. Classic Alavesa markers—banana and strawberry yogurt—open the nose, lifted by floral nuances. On the palate, it is supple and vibrant, carrying juicy fruit with a light chalky texture. Yes, it’s an everyday wine, but one with identity and precision. Generous and fruit-driven, the finish lingers nicely. A very pure expression of Rioja Alavesa’s carbonic tradition. Drink 2026-2037." - Joaquín Hidalgo
