Growing up in Ribera del Duero, Juan Carlos Vizcarra would watch legendary wineries like Vega Sicilia use his family’s fruit to make their wines. Motivated to put his family to the forefront, Juan took the initiative to produce world-class wines from his family’s vineyards. His wines now put up comparable scores to the biggest names in the region- and we’ve got a massive deal on his flagship cuvee!
100% Tempranillo, with aromas of violets, blueberries, plums, and Chinese Five Spice that bloom in the glass. It’s on dense with blue and black fruit, robust purple flower tones, and a beautiful mineral density that sings with each sip. It’s a resounding Ribero del Duero that shows off some of its best vineyards- at a fraction of the price of its peers!
Wine Enthusiast: 93 Points
"This wine is inky purple in the glass, with a violet rim. It has aromas of black plum, red cherries and a lifted note of dried rosemary. It is medium-bodied on the palate, with grippy tannins and flavors of ripe red raspberry, red plum, and cassis followed by a touch of cocoa powder in the finish."
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
"The 2020 JC Vizcarra (sold in some markets under the name Vizcarra 15 Meses because it matured in barrel for 15 months) is quite ripe, even in this cooler year, and hit the scale at 14.8% alcohol but keeping good freshness and coming through as balanced. The palate is medium to full-bodied with abundant, slightly dusty tannins that are going to need a little more time in bottle to be resolved. 70,000 bottles and 2,200 magnums produced. It was bottled in August 2022."
