The accolades for Familia Zuccardi continue to pile up. Last year, they became the first Argentine winery to have three wines merit 100 pts in the Wine Advocate. Wine Enthusiast recognized Zuccardi as the Best Winery in the New World. And after winning the competition three years in a row, Zuccardi was removed from eligibility for the crown of World’s Best Vineyard!
The Zuccardi ‘Q’ series is special for 3rd generation winemaker Sebastian Zuccardi. The project was started by his father and was the first wine to bear their family name on the label. When the project began, the best plots of each vineyard were marked with a ‘Q’ – for Quality. Extra attention was paid to their cultivation, with the most skilled workers assigned to tend these vineyards.
Plots are harvested separately at optimal ripeness and blended after fermentation to achieve the perfect integration of the different regions. The low-laying La Consulta region gives juiciness, while the high-altitude Gualtallary region gives structure. The result is a fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon, with loads of blackberry fruit balanced by firm tannins and hints of earthiness. Double the price for a California equivalent!
James Suckling: 93 Points
"A juicy and pretty full-bodied cabernet sauvignon with plenty of currants and fresh herbs. The juicy palate highlights the freshness of the fruit. Tannins are tight and fine-grained. Succulent in the finish. A wine to drink now or hold." JS
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
"The 2021 Q Cabernet Sauvignon was produced with grapes from Altamira and Gualtallary (in different parts), always fermented with 10% to 15% Malbec to add juiciness. So, it has the ripe but herbal side and the floral and berry notes with chalky tannins and the fine-grained varietal character. It's balanced, ripe without excess at 14% alcohol and has a long, dry and serious finish. They also use 500-liter barrels to age the Cabernet Sauvignon.” WA
