Nittardi Description
Nectar Dei, our super-premium wine, an extraordinary cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot, was christened after the ancient name of the Nittardi estate discovered in a document from 1183. As is the tradition of Nittardi, the first bottles of this new wine were presented to Pope Benedict XVI — just as Michelangelo Buonarroti did in the 16th century when he, the owner of the estate at the time, paid tribute to the popes Julius II and Leo X by presenting them with, to use Michelangelo’s own words, “the genuine wine of Nittardi”.

The 2021 Nectar Dei is packed with dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, chocolate and sweet spice. Ample and explosive, with tons of energy, the 2021 delivers plenty of Maremma punch.

Spicy and slightly earthy character with ripe, succulent dark berries and hints of plum skin, nutshells and hot stones. Medium- to full-bodied, dry, broad and structured, with firm tannins and chalk, crushed stone and mineral nuances. Hints of cedar and dried citrus peel. Lingering finish. Try after 2027.
Wine Enthusiast: 90 Points
The nose has the tart tanginess of berries, pepper, top soil and graphite, while the palate has a sweeter berry quality, but also a more intense earthiness that sets up a tangy, peppery finish that coheres with the nose as acid zips past pronounced tannins.
