"The 2023 La Poulosa Lomas de Valtuille is mostly Mencía with a portion of Trousseau from a centenary vineyard in Bierzo. It fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged for up to 11 months in barrels. This opens with violet and mint aromas, joined by ripe hints of rosehip, pomegranate and a late note of plum. Attractive and intense, it shows firm, juicy tannins and a compact, grippy texture, defining a palate that is full of energy." - Joaquín Hidalgo

"The 2023 La Vizcaína La Poulosa is a little more rustic than the other reds from La Vizcaína range; it's a little earthy and has slightly dusty tannins. It comes from 2.2 hectares on clay soils, and the grapes ripen very early. It's one of the oldest vineyards in the village and tends to give low yields and concentrated wines. All the reds from Vizcaína fermented with 100% full clusters with 40 days of maceration and aged in old 500-liter barrels (from 2014 to 2015) for some 11 months and without racking until the following harvest. This is the largest cuvée, some 9,000 bottles this year."
