A fabulous new bottling from our old friend Andrew Rich, producer of some of the most elegant wines that we taste from anywhere in the Pacific Northwest. Andrew’s Cabernet is a yet another gorgeous wine, a classy, refined expression of this noble varietal. Andrew uses two old organically farmed vineyards in the Columbia Valley for his fruit. The nutrient poor, sandy, glacial soils in these vineyards bring concentration and minerality. High winds off the Columbia River provide natural disease prevention, and cool nights lock in acidity. A warm but not too hot 2016 growing season produced lower yields than the previous two vintages, and grapes with rich colour and flavour. Altogether creating a fruit forward, richly textured, thoroughly approachable, and downright crushable Cabernet Sauvignon!

A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Syrah, all fermented as whole berries in stainless steel tanks. Ageing takes place over nine months in neutral (2-4 yr old) French oak barrels. Andrew uses the barrels to slowly bring oxygen to the wine, rounding off the shoulders, smoothing out the tannins. The absence of new oak means the purity of the fruit is preserved, it really has chance to shine. Boy does it too! Aromas of bing cherry and framboise climb from the glass, mixed with notes of graphite and spice for added intrigue. On the palate darker fruit notes loom, with blackberry and black cherry flavours. Impeccably balanced with silky smooth fine tannins, a long seamless finish, and a freshness that keeps you coming back for more!
