“Paul Lato is Absolutely Killing It when it comes to Selection of Vineyards, Converting the farming over to Organic and Biodynamic Principals, and selecting only the absolute best grapes to creating Some Absolutely Insane Wines. One of the Hottest Winemakers making Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Chardonnay in the world right now. If you haven't tried his wines you are definitely missing out! Check out these new releases. A great California success story, Polish immigrant Paul Lato started as a cellar hand in a Santa Maria co-op/custom crush and has worked his way up to being one of the leading producers of artisanal, world class wines in California today. Lato fashions a bevy of wines (I would normally say too many, yet given the quality he’s able to achieve, the more the merrier) including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. These aren’t lightweight wines, yet they never lose their sense of balance and elegance. I always describe the wines as having a slightly Old World style, but with one foot planted firmly in California. As I hope the reviews show, his 2018s are incredible wines across the board.” - Jeb Dunnuck All beat the best US Price online. All due to arrive in 4-6 weeks. Awesome notes of white flowers, white currants, toasted spices, honeysuckle and a touch of spice all emerge from this ultra-classic, medium to full-bodied, seamless beauty. It does everything right and is just a classy effort.”
- Chardonnay Goldberg Variations Hyde Vineyard 2018 - Sale $79.99 – 97 pts Jeb Dunnuck – “From the cooler Carneros region of Napa Valley, the 2018 Goldberg Variations Hyde Vineyard is another Chardonnay that’s up with the crème de la crème of California. Lots of ripe peach and nectarine fruits, subtle tropical notes, plenty of spice and brioche, medium to full-bodied richness, and a juicy, lengthy finish all make for a killer wine to enjoy over the coming 5-7 years.”
- Pinot Noir Victor Francis 2018 - Sale $69.99 – 97 pts Jeb Dunnuck – “Another Sta. Rita Hills release (I think this is the first vintage for this cuvée), the 2018 Victor Francis Peake Ranch Vineyard has a pure, nicely concentrated, full-bodied style with good complexity in its spiced cherry and blackberry fruits, chocolate, leafy herbs, and forest floor aromas and flavors. I love the overall richness and texture here, and it's one of the more meaty, powerful wines in the lineup.”
- Pinot Noir Suerte 2018 - Sale $79.99 – 98 pts Jeb Dunnuck - “the 2018 Suerte Solomon Hills Vineyard comes from a great vineyard just west of Bien Nacido and spent 17 months in 60% new French oak. Lots of black raspberries, spiced cherries, salty sea breeze, flowers, orange blossom, and violet notes emerge from the glass, and it's beautifully textured, full-bodied, and incredibly sexy on the palate. It's stunning today yet will evolve for upwards of a decade.”
- Pinot Noir Seabiscuit 2018 - Sale $74.99 – 95+ pts Jeb Dunnuck – “The 2018 Pinot Noir Seabiscuit Zotovich Vineyard, from the Sta. Rita Hills, saw a similar élevage and was all destemmed and brought up in 69% new French oak. Ruby/plum-colored, with a spicy, woody style in its red and black fruits, it has lots of cedary spice, flowery incense, and violet notes, medium to full body, a pure, balanced character, and a great finish. It's still relatively tight and focused and will benefit from another year in bottle. It should drink nicely through 2030.”
