92 pts Wine Enthusiast - “Editor’s Choice”, Top 100 of 2015
Hold on… 92 pt-rated, Cabernet-based Bordeaux for under $20? Look, that is darn near impossible to find from the 2015 and ’16 vintages. To pick one up with bottle age, straight from the Chateau, drinking perfectly with all of the edges smoothed out? I’ll be honest, I am impressing myself here. (Pat, pat… ouch… hard to reach my own back…)
59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and the rest small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Time has integrated the Cab and Merlot into a deliciously cohesive wine, with Merlot’s plump fruit adding nice flesh to the dark blackberry fruit, roasted herbs and spice flavors of the Cabernet. The fine, firm tannins of youth have melted away, leaving a weighty, yet smooth mouthful of wine.
“Peyrabon is owned by a branch of the Bernard family that also owns Domaine de Chevalier. This powerful, complex wine shows its pedigree. Dark tannins and ripe black fruits are all evidence of its aging potential.” WE (May 2015)
