With his movie star looks and devilish smile, winemaker Antonio Maçanita made quite a splash at Corks for Kids last Fall. My beautiful bride’s first question upon arriving was, "Who is HE?" Then people tasted his wines… whoa… and the line doubled! Sigh… some people are just blessed – good looks and talent! Antonio Macanita returned home to his native Portugal after winemaking stints in Napa, Australia and France, most notably Ch. Lynch Bages.

For this project, he is joined by his equally talented sister, Joana. Although if you ask her, she will claim to be more talented! And who am I to argue? Quick-witted with a formidable tongue, Joana complements Antonio’s irreverence, making them a dynamic duo and rising stars in the wine world.

Macanita’s Touriga Nacional em Rose is an exuberant, juicy glass of summertime, crafted from the “king of Portuguese grapes,” Touriga Nacional. Most often used to craft ripe, rich reds, in rosé form, Touriga showcases its floral and mineral side in exceedingly refreshing fashion. Minimal maceration and careful, slow cold fermentation yield a wine which is classic Touriga, yet completely new. On the nose, fresh crushed strawberries, bing cherries and cherry blossom aromas leap from the glass. On the palate, juicy and fresh, with beautiful texture and balance. Sour and Bing cherry, fresh and macerated strawberries, and a touch of white pepper spice all in abundance.  importer note

"The 2019 Touriga Nacional em Rosé is very dry and comes in very dry (0.6 grams of sugar) and at 12.5% alcohol. Another solid Touriga pink, this is moderately aromatic and chock-full of flavor, but the fruit is always supported by its fine acidity. It finishes dry. It seems deep and surprisingly concentrated too. This is lovely."
