So what's the secret to this formula?  Winemaker Stephen Black's partner happens to own the prized Zippy’s Block vineyard. The same one used by Two Hands to make their $130 Zippy’s Block Shiraz! This is like buying a new Lamborghini for the price of a Honda!

Dark and inky in color, the wine oozes aromas of melted chocolate, blackberries and star anise. The full-bodied, rich flavor offers notes of the same, married with plum, figs roasted nuts and a hint of olive. For me, what raises the bar here is the bright acidity that balances all of that richness, along with a fine grain of tannins, creating a long, savory finish. And, as always, the extra special trick here is age – 24 months in neutral oak barrels before being bottled has resulted in an integration of flavors and textural smoothness unheard of at this price point!

Hmm… what to pair with? I don’t know about you, but I’m thinking a pint glass. Done.

Okay, seriously, though… no need to get all worked up – just keep it simple if you want. Fire up the grill and throw just about anything on there – burgers, ribs, steak, pork, chicken, lamb, rabbit, duck, portabella mushrooms… heck, brush down some firm tofu with barbeque sauce and go to town! This is a wine of the people, folks!
