“a total knock-out. Don't miss it.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

The Caparsa 2016 Chianti Classicos have arrived. After reading about these wines in Vinous Media’s “2016 Chianti Classico – A Modern Day Benchmark” in August of last year, I have waited literally a year for these to land! Caparsa wines really stood out to me in Galloni’s report, noted as one of his “don’t miss new releases” alongside the likes of Tignanello 2016 ($100+ a bottle), Fontodi Flaccinello 2016 ($150+), Isole Cepparello 2016 ($80+)… yeah, some really nice wines.
Caparsa is a tiny organically farmed 12 hectare estate in Radda, noted for the highest elevation vineyards in the Chianti Classico zone. These are very traditional styled wines, all natural, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, with judicious use of new oak for ageing.
“The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Caparsino is the more refined of the estate's two Riservas. Aromatic, silky and also plush, the 2016 is fabulous. Mint, pine, lavender, espresso and macerated dark cherry all open up in the glass, but more than anything else, the 2016 is a wine that gracefully marries power with richness. The 2016 is a total knock-out. Don't miss it.” - VM
