Once again, Jean-Marc Lafage has gone back to his childhood home of Maury. Here, he is focusing on a very specific area – a lieu-dit in French – called Narassa. From 70 year-old vines planted in the rugged black schist soil. 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah. Jean-Marc is aiming for a slightly different style here. Aiming to tame the firm tannins of the rugged terroir, he harvests the grapes later than normal, which he finds gives the wine a soft texture and a fine finish. I can’t disagree! The wine is at once rich and sumptuous, dare I say hedonistic, yet has a surprising elegance on the long, smooth finish. 

Monsieur Lafage suggests charcuterie, tapas, red meats, paella, game… a wonderful mix of Spanish and French that is the Catalan spirit of the region! 

“Almost too good to be true, the 2017 Narassa is based on 82% Grenache and 18% Syrah, with the Grenache coming from the black slate soils of Maury and the Syrah from the higher elevation, sandy, granitic soils of Saint Martin de Fenouillet. Brought up all in used barrels, this full-bodied, deep, meaty Syrah reminds me a top California GSM blend and has a rocking nose of white pepper, black olives, cedarwood, and ample black fruits. At this quality, they could charge three to four times the price. Drink it over the coming 3-4 years." JD

Basically, you give us the budget and parameters and we will put something together for you based off your purchase history. 15% off six bottles, 20% off a case. (discount applies to regularly-priced wines). Simply reply to this email, or call us. Here is the info we will need. 

• Budget (after discount before tax) - minimum is $90 for a six pack, $180 for a case ($15 per bottle average)
• # of reds, # of whites, # of roses, # of sparkling
• # of bottles of each
• For example, $200 budget, 3 reds, 3 whites, 2 bottles of each... or all red, 3 bottles of each, etc. etc.
