We sell a lot of Champagne. Tons of it. And, thanks to our close relationship with the folks who import Krug, Veuve, Ruinart and Moët, we get to drink a lot of it was well at various dinners and events throughout the year. Rich is so spoiled now, he won’t break out a glass for anything less than Dom Perignon. Okay, kidding… I think… Rich?
Anyway, this gem was featured at last Fall's Corks for Kids, alongside some of those same $150-$200 bottles. On first sip, I did a double-take. Uh, surely this is the fancy wine in my glass, right? The Moët? Seriously? I giggled like a school boy (or girl) and raced to find Rich. Rich, have you tried that Moët? His reaction sums this up perfectly… in his most British accent, “I know, right? That stuff is banging!” (say it out loud with an accent, it really sells it…)
“Moët's 2012 Extra Brut Grand Vintage is showing well, unfurling in the glass with an expressive bouquet of ripe yellow orchard fruit, peaches, toasted nuts, warm bread and honeycomb. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a tangy but ripe core of fruit, nicely integrated acids and a pinpoint mousse, concluding with an attractively fruit-driven finish. The 2012 reflects both the concentration of the vintage and Moët's push for riper fruit, and it is already quite accessible." WA
"Collected, balanced and poised, this Champagne combines richness with freshness, and fruit with minerality. It is still a young wine ,with acidity shining through the texture. It will age impressively," WE
"Finely knit, with a subtle, smoky mineral–laced underpinning, this elegant Champagne layers flavors of lemon curd and cassis with rich hints of grilled nut and crystallized honey. A bright backbone of acidity focuses this through to the lingering, creamy finish. " WS
“Initial notes of fresh white flowers evolve towards sweet, fragrant pastries, with occasional scents of fresh walnuts, hazelnuts and biscuits. In parallel, the fruit is crisp, freshly ripened, with aromas of pear, white peach and nectarine. The attack is soft, supple and fluid. The palate then develops texture, with a softness like cashmere or felt. This initial softness gradually reveals a purity, the crisp structure lengthens, lingering, to offer an iodized, tangy finish, underscored by a mouthwatering hint of grapefruit.” Winery Note
