Bossi is located in the Castelnuovo Berardenga subzone. This is the southernmost appellation of Chianti Classico – the heart and soul of the much broader Chianti region. Temperatures are a few degrees warmer, and the soils are slightly richer, resulting in dark, powerful Sangiovese. (For those Chianti lovers, this is the same subzone as Felsina’s famed Rancia vineyard.)
This 2016 Berardo more than lives up to the reputation, exploding from the glass with dark aromas of cherries and plums before giving way to an intense wine, loaded with flavors of the same, joined by classic Chianti notes of violets, wild herbs and black tea. The acidity is more than ample to balance out the richness, coupling with fine, firm tannins to deliver a complete picture. Kind of looks something like this…
Sigh… grab a bottle, close your eyes, and live the Tuscan lifestyle!
“This is a very subtly played Chianti Classico Riserva that opens to reveal brambleberries, dried orange peel, vanilla, tobacco, cedar, spice box and grilled meats. Very structured on the palate with loads of firm tannins, coated with generous fruit and refreshened by cutting acidity." JS
