Sorry for sending this twice... but the first time I forgot to put a subject line... funny how that has a way of ending up in junk boxes... And yet, we have sold almost half of the wine! Get it while you can! In tasting through wines for our Case of the Year, this was a finalist... only one issue kept it from making the final cut... it's too inexpensive! But the wine was just soooo good... so I bought a ton. Literally. Actually a little more than a ton. About 2,300 pounds in total. This is my largest Rhone purchase in FIVE years. Yes, it is THAT good. If you trust me at all, and you enjoy Rhone reds... or any medium to full bodied red with smooth tannins and lush fruit... then you need to grab some of this.
Guillaume Gonnet Cotes du Rhone Villages "Le Hardi" 2018

Buy 6 or more, pay $13.49
All Else $14.99 on sale
Guillaume refers to this as a "Baby Chateauneuf du Pape"... I've often wondered, and asked, what the fruit source is here. Fifty year-old vines on a south-facing plateau... doesn't sound like Cotes du Rhone... Perhaps he is telling us? Hmmm... In any case, this is just impressive. Fifty year-old vines provide plenty of intensity and complexity. No need for oak here, so none is used. The fruit is just ridiculous... I had to keep checking the bottle to make sure I hadn't opened their Chateauneuf by mistake. (The only downside to the strikingly beautiful, but way too similar labels). 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah. It's that 20% Syrah that gives this wine a smoky note, along with some backbone. No wonder the wine is call "le Hardi" - "The Bold"! Dark blackberry and cherry aromas give way to a powerful wine with loads of savory garrigue notes. This baby offers a powerful array of ripe, briary fruit combined with garrigue – but the wine is impeccably balanced and caresses your palate on the long finish. In essence – a perfect Rhone red for matching with just about any dish you can throw at it!
