Les Hauts de Milly Chablis 2019
Sale $24.99
92 pts Decanter
Bernard and Monique Defaix started their domain in 1959, with a little more than 4 acres. Through hard work and steady investment, their estate now covers nearly 70 acres in Chablis and 14 acres in Rully (Côte Chalonnaise). Since the late 1990’s, the domain has been managed by Bernard and Monique’s two sons, Sylvain and Didier Defaix.
Oh… and Les Hauts de Milly? That’s an alternate label the winery created for our friend, importer Craig Baker. Which also explains the ridiculous value of this wine…
Let’s compare with other 2019 Chablis… rated by the same taster, Andy Howard, Master of Wine, with over 40 years of experience. All were tasted blind.
- Samuel Billaud Chablis 1er Cru Montmains – 91 pts - $60
- Laroche Chablis Montmains Premier Cru - 92 pts - $75
- Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru – 90 pts - $70
Am I saying this is as good as 1er Cru Chablis that costs three times as much? Yes. Well, actually Mr. Wood is saying it… and he is the true expert!
I have 14 cases now… more arriving mid-January. Assuming we are oversold, I will fill part of everyone’s order now, and the remainder in January. That way, everyone can enjoy some over the holidays!
“Domaine Bernard Defaix is a highly-rated family estate based in Milly, with the vines for this bottling averaging 30 years age. Ten months lees ageing adds to the complexity on both the nose and palate. Refined, classy and complex characters on show here, which meld beautifully with the ripe peachy fruit notes. A very fine, expressive, distinctive Chablis which is ready to drink now but will age very well for many years. Drinking Window 2021 – 2027” Decanter Given the limited nature of this offer, please reply to order. |
