We blew through our first pallet of this wine, so we re-upped... and are down to just 10 cases... want some? When making purchase decisions, I normally base the quantity off previous sales… like, when last we offered a wine like this, we sold x cases in a week. Using that as my benchmark, I’ll go up or down 10-15% depending on how I am feeling.
But every once in a while, I come across a wine that breaks all of the molds.
This is one such wine.
In the 18 years of my business, I have NEVER ordered this much of any wine that sells for more than $20. EVER.
It’s simply that good, and that good of a deal. For yourself. For friends. For family. As gifts.
Enjoy!
Greetings Napa Valley Cabernet 2018
Sale $24.99
Buy six or more pay $21.99
Buy a case and pay $19.99
Nothing beats “knowing a guy or gal” when it comes to finding incredible deals. In this case, we know both! A husband and wife duo with a combined 55 years in the wine business are behind this super deal. Doug and Ashli Cohen were among the first distributors in the country to represent the likes of Araujo, Seavey, Staglin, Harlan, Rudd and Bryant Family to market.
So when they decided to launch a Napa Valley brand, they relied on who THEY knew to steer them right. You see, every year, a winemaker has a handful of barrels that, while delicious, don’t fit into their blend. Maybe they are young vines and don’t deliver enough tannins. Maybe they are old vines and are too concentrated. Using their connections, Doug and Ashli pulled together 40 barrels of exceptional juice from the outstanding 2018 vintage.
Now, they can’t tell me exact sources, but they can give some tantalizing hints… a lot of the fruit came from a vineyard in the Rutherford Bench/Oakville area with neighboring wineries like Caymus, Scarecrow, Rudd, BV, Staglin, etc.. In all, the wine was sourced from Stag’s Leap District, Oak Knoll District, Calistoga, and Yountville. And the female winemaker is well known for delivering high-scoring Cabs that sell for great pricing relative others in the “neighborhood”. Knowing who their friends are, I can make some guesses… and all of them point to $80-$150 Napa Cabernets.
All I know is the wine is spectacular. I opened it blind alongside two 93 pt-rated Napa Cabs, that retail in the $50 range. It was markedly better than one of them, and comparable to the other. So, this is what? 93 pts? 94? All I know is it is a ridiculous deal. Easily worth twice the price. It’s the kind of wine to buy by the case… give some away as gifts, and try and keep your hands off the rest, as it will continue to evolve and drink well for another 7-10 years.
79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 2% Petite Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc aged 16 months in French Oak Barrels-35% New Oak. Aromas of black cherries wrapped in a spice box of nutmeg, clove and allspice jump from the glass. The palate is filled with flavors of black currants and plum that lead seamlessly to silky tannins and black cherry notes. Blackberry, Mission fig and black cherry notes linger on the finish. A delicious combination of elegance and intensity.
