Poedere il Palazzino is our top-selling Tuscan estate. Second in all of Italy. And Top 10 in the world. Making this ranking even more impressive is the fact their wines have always been limited to us. With unfettered access, they would be in our Top 3 for sure.
And that could happen, as the Sderci family has been giving us larger allocations thanks to our decade-plus support to the tune of nearly 1,000 cases!
First up is a wine that we have only ever gotten in 5 or 6 case drops. Today we have 20 fabulous cases! At less than half the price of the next best US offering!

A blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot. With the rise of the Super Tuscans, Cabernet and Petit Verdot rose to prominence. But over the past ten or so years, many wineries have reverted to more traditional blends, often bottling 100% Sangiovese wines. So now, international grapes like Cabernet and Petit Verdot find themselves in the same situation as the native grapes they originally pushed aside! Don’t feel bad for them… just drink them up!
Gorgeous aromatics and broad, lush dark fruit. Seductively textured and smooth, there is plenty of oomph! hiding in the background, revealing fine tannins on the long, fine finish. Blackberries, cloves, mint and lavender are just some of the nuanced flavors you'll find here. Begging for a Bistecca alla Fiorentina...
"The 2016 Bertinga, Il Palazzino's Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend is packed with dark fruit, grilled herb, leather, licorice and cedar flavors. Swaths of tannin and lively acids give the wine a real feeling of energy. There is plenty of depth to the Bertinga, a Bordeaux red that speaks with a strong Tuscan accent. The 2016 will shine brightest at the dinner table. I would give the 2016 a good bit of air, as time in the decanter brings out an element of finesse that is not present at the outset. It's an absolutely gorgeous wine. Racy, ripe and intense in its expression of dark fruit, the Bertinga is quite bold in style, but it is also well balanced. Readers should expect Cabernet Sauvignon-based red that is quite Tuscan in its flavor profile and overall personality." Vinous
