We will be closing at 5 pm on Thursday, December 31st. As always, we will be closed New Year's Day. And, we are always closed Sunday and Monday. Rather than drag my hard-working, possibly sober crew back in, we are going to stay closed the Saturday in-between. Then we've got inventory on Tuesday. (It ain't all roses and sunshine!) The bottom line is we will be closed January 1-5, reopening on Wednesday, January 6. I know... we will "miss" some sales. I apologize for any inconvenience, but the gang needs a breather. They've earned it this year in spades! Stock up today so you won't go thirsty! .jpg)
Le G de Chateau Guiraud 2018

How good is this? Compare with some other uber-famous White Bordeaux... - Cos d'Estournel 2016 - 91 pts WS for $125
- Cheval-Blanc Le Petit Cheval 2016 - 93 pts WS for $110
Two things give this wine a distinctive and unique character compared with other White Bordeaux. First, the wine is an even blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. The richness of the Semillon is balanced by the vibrant acidity of the Sauvignon Blanc. Then, 80% of the wine is aged in barrels previously used to make Guiraud's primary wine - a sweet Sauternes. And not just any Sauternes, but one of the best examples out there! Anyhoo, these used barrels don't add any sweetness to the wine, but rather add an intriguing hint of botrytis that presents itself in a barely there hint of guave, mango and spice. A perfect match with shellfish risotto. Click on the pic for a recipe.
“Showy, featuring peach, nectarine and apricot notes that evoke Sauternes, though the palate is dry, harnessed by bitter orange and almond accents. A lingering hint of green tea at the very end adds range. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Drink now through 2023." WS
“Guiraud is synonymous with Sauternes, but this dry white shows the same class and complexity as you find in its famous sweet wines. It's an equal blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, packed with spiky gooseberries and nettles, rich tropical tones and creamy herbal and hay notes. Long and textural with lifted grapefruit acidity." Decanter
