[Rich] The Delta wines have been a revelation for me this year, delicious wines from California at an everyday price. Vintners Alexis and Matt Iaconis are raising their young family in the heart of California wine country, Healdsburg Sonoma. They produce great wines and give back with a $1 of every bottle sold going to environmental causes https://www.winesforchange.com/giving-back
"We’re here to do our part in order to protect our planet so it continues to thrive for generations to come." As the father of a one year old, that's a motto I can get behind. Ok, to the wine!
The fruit is sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards dotted along the California coastline. Native yeast fermentation in temperature controlled tanks to preserve the intense fruit aromas and flavors. And what glorious aromas and flavors they are: Cantaloupe, passion fruit, lime, citrus blossom, fennel and on and on!
Ok... let me anticipate the two questions most likely to be asked next... "How does this compare next to New Zealand Sauv Blanc? And how does this stack up with the Sancerre we've been drinking like water?"
Great questions! So, it is not as "sharp" or "pungent" as a Kiwi SB... techincally speaking, there are less pyrazines, which impart the tell-tale herbaceous notes. There's still loads of fruit in the Delta, but it is more rounded... less citrus and more peach skin and melon. And while the acidity is vibrant, the Delta is less minerally than our favorite Sancerre. In all, I like to think of this as another weapon in our Sauv Blanc arsenal! It's flat-out delicious for porch-sipping (Spring is right around the corner!). It is fabulous as an aperitif, and will be divine with a light fish dish. OH my... when was the last time you had Trout Almondine? I made it a couple months ago... flashback to culinary school! So delicious. And as fresh as we can get trout? Go for it! "Savory and crisp with a salty, briny characteristic of oyster shell, this bright, cheerful and well-made white is a celebration of Ruby Red grapefruit and melon. Crisp and high toned, it rewards in lasting freshness and is a steal at the price. " WE
