“In Napa Valley, David Abreu is about as close to a living legend as one can be.  A third-generation Napa native who graduated from the UC Davis Viticulture and Enology Program, Abreu has planted some of the very best vineyards in the valley. His expertise would help launch David Abreu Vineyard Management in 1980, which lead David to become one of the most sought-after vineyard managers in the valley. His cast of clients reads like a Who’s Who of Napa, including names like Harlan, Blankiet, Staglin, Colgin, Bryant, Fisher, Araujo, Grace, Viader, and Screaming Eagle.  In 1987, seven years after starting his vineyard management business, Abreu released his own commercial bottling using fruit from his Madrona Ranch Vineyard. Before long, Abreu added three more vineyards to his lineup: Thorevilos, Cappella, and Howell Mountain, all superb sites and unique in their locations, and he hired winemaker, Brad Grimes. The winery gained the press’s attention, garnering well-deserved critical acclaim that has continued to this day.”

Madrona:  Magical spot that holds David’s heart and soul.  Located in St. Helena.  It was the first site that he developed in the early 80’s.  Incredibly diverse soils offer up complexity in the wine.  Canyons and curves snake through the property with cattle, goats, pigs and honeybees.

Capella:  One of the oldest vineyard sites in St. Helena.  Six acres that six alongside a Catholic cemetery on the west side of town, first plated in 1869.  In the 80’s, the church asked David to tear up the vineyards and he watched the land lay fallow for two decades.  He jumped at the chance to replant.

Thorevilos:  Sits 800 feet above the valley floor wedged between St. Helena & Howell Mnt.  It was David’s “playgroud” as a child growing up in Napa clear of vineyards and simply planted with olive, pine and redwood trees.

Las Posadas:  David purchased the property in 2000.  It sits right above the fog line on Howell Mountain at about 2000 feet elevation surrounded by fir and pine.  Historic site formally owned by a local college.  Red Aiken soil.
