Lets get the suspense out of the way immediately. This is one of my favorite homework assignments in a while. We’re talking deep, dark fruit flavors, exceptional body, and an elegant composure that made me feel a little bad that I hadn’t done something a little more labor-intensive for dinner. There’s this beautiful tannic structure that comes from 24 months in French Oak, giving a savory cedar and cigar box note on the finish that I normally expect from wines in a much higher price range.

So what’s the story here? This is a little side project from the folks at Vina Vilano, a producer in Ribera del Duero who regularly pull in 90+ scores from Wine Advocate and James Suckling, brought to us by our friends at Misa Imports. We get a great deal from them and pass it on to you! And, I can’t this stress enough- this is a DEAL. Cask aged, old-vine Tempranillo, from one of the most celebrated regions in Spain. I don’t think I could ask for anything else!

While I checked this out with a little pizza from Village Diner (thanks to all of y’all for the recommendations), in a perfect world I would have had some roasted pork or carnitas. A little Barbacoa or Carne Asada would be perfect too- Tacos and Tapas are kind of the dream pairing here. Click the picture for my plan alongside the next bottle of Légon I bring home!
