Our Vermouth sales have exploded over the past few months… and the thought occurred to me… do some people not even know we carry vermouth? And are still buying the swill from the grocery store?
Never fear! I have put together a shortlist of the best Vermouths available in market… three sweet, three dry, and one blended vermouth that is just fun…
Of course, we have access to many others, so if you are looking for something in particular, please reply to let me know. (eg., Cardamaro, Bonal Gentiane-Quina, Byrrh Grand Quinquina, Comoz Blanc, Cap Corse, Mattei Quinquina, etc… )

Carpano Antica Formula 1786 Sweet Vermouth (Italian / Sweet / 1 Liter Bottle) - Sale $41.99 – 95 pts Wine Enthusiast – “This dark, mysterious vermouth is rich, complex and layered, boasting aromas of mint and other herbs, plums and figs, reminiscent of Madeira. The rich flavors are hard to pin down: cocoa, red wine, almonds, bitter marmalade, hints of spice and toffee all play across the palate, finishing with a bracing bitter edge.”
Dolin Dry Vermouth (French / Bone Dry750 ml) – Sale $15.99 – “Dolin Dry is distinguished by its light, fresh and clean profile, which comes from a delicate wine base and more than thirty Alpine herbs. From its start in 1821, Dolin Vermouth de Chambéry has been the benchmark for fine French Vermouth. Its fresh and elegant nose, subtle and complex palate is the profile that made the 1:1 gin/dry vermouth Martini famous, and so often imitated by others. In the 1930s Chambéry earned France’s only protected designation of origin for Vermouth.” Importer note
Carpano Bianco Dry Vermouth (Italian / Mostly Dry) – Sale $24.49 - 94 pts Wine Enthusiast – “New to the U.S. market, this dry vermouth smells fresh and fruity. It's well-structured, too: sweet at first, with fleeting pear and tropical fruit flavors, a trace of minerality on the finish and a faint bitterness. An excellent choice for martinis and other cocktails calling for dry vermouth, but unlike most dry vermouths, this one would be pleasing on its own, with ice and a twist of orange peel.”
Cocchi Torino Vermouth (Italian / Sweet) – Sale $20.99 - The original recipe of Giulio Cocchi calls for the use of herbs such as Cinchona and rhubarb which lightly colour of brown the beautiful clear wine. In order to emphasize its amber tone, the addition of sugar browned on fire emphasizes its amber tone, giving together with colour also a special note to the taste: crunchy and cotton candy able to round all the bitter tastes without using vanilla. A thrilling vermouth, rich in sensations: among the herbs and the aromatizing spices, Artemisia and citrus are the protagonists with their balanced bitter and citrusy notes which characterize Cocchi style. A rich taste with vibrant notes of cocoa and bitter orange. From the infusion of some noble and balsamic woods, we have in the end light aromas of camphor and rosemary notes. Among the minor ingredients, herbs and woods with unique perfumes such as sandal, musk, myrrh and nutmeg.
Carpano Punt en Mes (2 parts Sweet Vermouth / 1 part quina bitters) - $22.99 - The story goes that on 19 April 1870 , a stockbroker, caught up in a discussion with colleagues whilst in the Carpano wine shop about the increase in share prices on that day – one and a half points – ordered his usual Carpano vermouth but asked for the barman to add half a measure of bitter, using the regional expression “Punt e Mes”. The drink immediately became popular as an aperitif before lunch Punt e Mes has a golden orange color with topaz tones, herby aromas and dark red, black dahlia with vermilion shades. The initial taste is one of sweetness, characterised by an intriguing accent of orange. This is followed by the characteristically bitter taste of the quina and ends on a sweet note.
Cocchi Americano (Italian / Mostly Dry) $20.99 - Cocchi Americano, for its nature, represents the link between wine and liquors being a wine plus a small quantity of alcohol bittered (“amaricato”) by the infusion of precious herbs and spices: white wine, sugar, herbs and spices infusion in alcohol and in particular gentian flowers and leaves, Artemisia, Cinchona, bitter orange peel, elderflower and others.
