Three exciting new Bordeaux have arrived… and all pre-tariff!
Top of the list is a rare 2010 from the Left Bank, Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant, for under $100. Note the reviews are all recent, so reflect how the wine is now! Then a pair of delicious St. Emilion. I’ve tried both and they are lovely.
Supplies are limited.
La Lagune Haut-Medoc 2010 – Sale $89.99 – 96 pts James Suckling / 94 pts Vinous / 94 pts Decanter- 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot - “This is showcasing La Lagune at the level of the best 3rd growths, with plenty in common with the aromatic complexity of Margaux that lies just over the border from Haut-Médoc. Deeply textured brambly fruits, beautifully balanced with tons of menthol crushed mint leaf notes and fine tannins. This is aromatic elegance and juiciness, but with grip and character. “ Decanter, Tasted Apr. 2020
“These are the best aromatics on a La Lagune…so far. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and a keen line of acidity that combines to manifest a serious and complex La Lagune; sophisticated with layers of mineral-rich black fruit. I love the focus here and the way it just lingers in the mouth long after the wine has departed. ” Vinous tasted 2018
Barde Haut St. Emilion 2015 – Sale $54.99 – 96 pts Jeb Dunnuck / 95 pts James Suckling – “A huge nose of sweet crème de cassis, jammy blackberries, violets, leather, and dried herbs gives way to a full-bodied wine that has a great mid-palate, ripe, silky tannins, not a hard edge to be found, and a great, great finish. I love it even today, yet it has a full two decades of prime drinking ahead of it.” JD
“Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, wet earth and black tea. Full-bodied, dense and layered with medium, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and power.” JS
Sanctus St. Emilion 2018 – Sale $39.99 – 92-94 pts Jeb Dunnuck / 92-94 pts Wine Enthusiast / 91-93 pts Vinous – “A smaller production cuvée, the 2018 Château Sanctus is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc and comes from the more limestone soils of the upper plateau. Rocking notes of black raspberries, cassis, crushed flowers, and a salty minerality all emerge from this medium to full-bodied Saint-Émilion that has beautiful purity of fruit, considerate elegance, and the sunny, sexy fruit of the vintage. It’s going to benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for 10-15 years.” JD
“The 2018 Sanctus is a rich, creamy Saint-Émilion built on textural resonance and depth. Dark cherry, plum, chocolate, new leather and spice build in a wine that balances fruit intensity with fresher notes from these limestone soils. The 2018 is absolutely impeccable.” VM
