Here's "The Deal"... The SRP of this wine is $32. That's an increase from the 2016 vintage, thanks to some pretty fantastic press. I tasted, and ordered, this gem before any press had come out on this vintage. So, the importer kindly extended the old price to me. Now the reviews are coming in... including 92 pts WE (yet to be published)... cha-ching!
But tell ya what? I'll still sell it to you at the "old price"... Supply is decent, but limited at this price. Not sure what the new pricing will be... we are currently the only retailer in the country with this wine!
From the venerable Celler Capcanes, which you may recall from their Mas Donis, comes this fantastic bargain. Hand harvested of Garnacha, Cariñena (Samsó), Syrah and Merlot grapes from the Capçanes highest mountain vineyards. Up to 50 years old vines at an altitude of 150-450 meters. The grapes were destemmed, fermented and macerated for several weeks in cement tanks. Then the wine was aged for 9 months in new up to five years old French and American oak barrels. Wild red and black berry flavors, cherry, spices and crushed rocks. A serious wine at an extremely friendly price. Some pairing suggestions from the winery:Chili con carne, barbecued beef with dry marinade, duck salad with strawberries, filet mignon with peppercorn sauce, mixed grill of beef, sausage and chicken, rib-eye steak with parmesan and salad, moussaka. Wow! That's a spread!
“A blend of garnacha, cariñena, syrah and merlot from old vines, this is a big and concentrated wine with a sun-drenched feel. Its notes of black currant and dark chocolate are balanced by a firm structure and fresher, crunchier red fruits." W&S
