[Rich]It’s no secret that Napa Valley wines are expensive, especially Cabernet Sauvignon. So when I tasted this gem I started skipping! If you’ve turned your back on Napa thinking the prices have just got too high then this is a game-changer. I tried to order 60 cases, but could only get 20. I expect this will move quickly.
“But it’s a Suckling score Rich!” While some may feel his ratings are inflated, let's just look at the comparisons with other wines he has given 93 pts or less... and how they were rated by others... - Turnbull Black Label – $150 – 98+ pts Wine Advocate (91 pts JS)
- Arietta Cabernet Sauvignon - $125 – 96 pts Vinous (90 pts JS)
- O’Shaughnessy Mt Veeder - $100+ - 96 pts Jeb Dunnuck (93 pts JS)
Wine Advocate, Vinous, and Jeb Dunnuck have not reviewed this Martin Ray and it’ll be sold out before they do. You’re just going to have to trust me on this one, this is an incredible buy!
Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2018
Sale $19.99 net (Beats winery price of $30!)
93 pts James Suckling
This is flat out delicious 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, they’re not messing with Petit Verdot to give it more depth or Cabernet Franc to give it aromatics. The fruit comes from vineyards in Rutherford, Stags Leap District, Howell Mountain and Oak Knoll. This is proper Napa Cab and from a top vintage too, I love this 2018 in Napa and this wine shows it well. There’s finesse and elegance, with great depth of flavor too. “Deep notes of dense cassis, and touches of elderflower and vanilla. Fresh mulberry and tart cherry throughout, with sweet cocoa powder, Mediterranean oregano, and supple integrated tannins.” – Winery note.
“Deep and manicured with blueberry and blackberry aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and tight with super polished tannins and a tight, racy finish. Beautifully crafted tannins make this exciting. Better after 2022, but already beautiful. Screw cap.” – JS
