This young winery had a fast pass to the big leagues thanks to their collab with winemaking dream team Phillipe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky of Atelier Melka; the brains of top Napa names like Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle and Vineyard 29. If you want a hint at the quality of this Sauvignon Blanc, look to Phillipe and Maayan’s new and thriving small production, La Pelle, whose Sauvignon Blanc is already garnering 95 pt scores and a cult-following. It hit the market with a best price of $44… Reviewers are putting La Pelle Sauv Blanc squarely in the discussion as the best of California!
You might be thinking… these two wines are at opposite ends of the price spectrum… how can you compare?? Well, it’s the skill and resulting quality always provided by our favorite winemaking team that translates in both whites. I easily recognize Andis Wines as having some of the best and most accessible Zinfandels, Primitivo, and now whites. The Andis Sauvignon Blanc also differs from La Pelle in the blend, which adds 15% of well-rounded, Old Vine Semillon… the complexity of fruit is delish! The acidity is maintained and flippin’ mouth-watering… So fresh and I thought even a little tropical… at least I feel like downing this in some tropical weather. We’ll have to settle for our 60 degree NC sunshine… I’m not complaining!
