La Croix de Gay Pomerol 2016 – Sale $34.99 (375ml)- 96 pts James Suckling / 94 pts Decanter / 93 pts Jeb Dunnuck – 95% Merlot / 5% Cabernet Franc. “The 2016 Château La Croix de Gay is, I suspect, the finest to date for this estate. Almost all Merlot (there’s 5% Cabernet Franc), it has a beautiful nose of dried flowers, truffle, smoke tobacco, and both sweet red and black fruits. About as seamless as it gets on the palate, with terrific elegance, it’s a thrilling Pomerol that has real class.” JD
Lalande Borie St. Julien 2016 – Sale $27.99 (375ml)– 94 pts Decanter / 93 pts James Suckling / 93 pts Wine Spectator – 45% Cabernet Sauvignon / 55% Merlot. From the famed Ducru-Beaucaillou! “Inky in colour and with intense cassis flavours joined by olive paste notes, this has a gorgeous, balanced feel. It needs to be carafed for an hour or two if you are looking to drink it soon, although the tannins are already silky and the concentration on display is pretty seductive. Great stuff, with a menthol blast on the finish, just brilliant value for money.” D
Cote de Baleau St. Emilion 2016 – Sale $24.99 (375ml) – 92 pts Jeb Dunnuck / 92 pts James Suckling / 91 pts Decanter – 80% Merlot / 15% Cabernet Franc / 5% Cabernet Sauvignon “Made with consulting advice from Michel Rolland’s team, the 2016 Château Cote de Baleau is a plump, sexy, fruit-loaded beauty that gives up tons of ripe black fruits, charred meat, and earthy, herbal aromas and flavors. Textured, upfront, and ready to go, drink it any time over the coming decade or so.” JD
Tour de Mons Margaux 2016 – Sale $24.99 (375ml) – 94 pts Wine Enthusiast / 93-94 pts James Suckling / 91 pts Decanter - 56% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Petit Verdot. “ This sumptuous wine has enormous power that is mitigated by the taut, mineral texture and black-currant flavors. It is a finely wrought wine that will take time to age.” WE “careful but not shy fruit extraction, some real intensity to the silky raspberry and bilberry flavours, and tannins that cradle without overpowering the fruit. Brilliant value for money in a wine where you get a hint of the floral silkiness of Margaux.” D
Lilian Ladouys St. Estephe 2016 – Sale $24.99 (375ml) – 93 pts James Suckling / 92 pts Decanter / 91 pts Wine Advocate - 62% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot. “It has a tightly wound bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow and graphite, plenty of fruit here with excellent delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with ebullient red berry fruit laced with white pepper and bay leaf, a touch of brown spice towards the generous finish. Very fine.” WA
Tronquoy-Lalande St. Estephe 2016 – Sale $24.99 (375ml) – 93 pts Wine Advocate / 93 pts Decanter / 93 pt James Suckling – “It has quite a deep and broody bouquet with blackberry, boysenberry and just a hint of blue fruit, gaining in intensity in the glass. The palate is quite firm in the mouth, robust and grippy with tarry black fruit, a pleasant compactness filtering through towards the finish.” WA
