Why the big sale? Well, there is no secret deal here… basically, F.X. Pichler is the most sought after Austrian producer. I simply cannot get enough of his wines. So this year, when the distributor offered me the entire NC allocation, I just said “Yes!”.
In past, he sold this entry-level wine to restaurants. And he will most certainly do so again (hopefully soon!).
But in the meanwhile, I have a chance to introduce everyone to the producer with this classic wine! So why not just drop the price to the US Best? Why not, indeed?!?
And why do we all love Gruner Veltliner so much? For me, it is the perfect combination of aromatic fruit, vibrant acidity and just the right amount of body – not too light… not too heavy… making Gruner equally at home on the front porch, the pool (or pond… or beach… or kiddie pool…) and the dinner table. It is wonderful with appetizers like fresh tomatoes and goat cheese, pairs wonderfully with fish of all shapes and sizes, but can still stand up to chicken off the grill. It is, in my house, my go-to white! And at just 12.5% alc., this is superbly quaffable!
“It is not often that one can talk about the greatest producer in a given country (but Austria is small, so here one has an advantage). And while there are many great wine-makers in Austria, none is more synonymous with great Austrian wine than F.X. Pichler or as he is simply called, F.X. In fact so riveting is his reputation that one author on Austrian wine who was prompted to list the 100 greatest producers in Austria, in order of greatness, lists F.X. Pichler as #1. When one tastes the wines, you'll see why they impress all. They are truly monumental dry white wines - each with a mouth-filling presence, finish and complexity that leaves one speechless.” Importer Note
“Delicately herb-spicy yellow tropical fruit, nuances of apple and mango… Juicy, elegant, fine fruit sweetness, fresh acid arch, dark minerality, ripe apple fruit and honeymelon in the back taste.” Falstaff
