“The fruit for the ‘Comune di la Morra’ Barolo primarily hails from the younger vines off of the ‘Ascheri’ block (planted between 1970 and 2002 - averaging 28 years of age) on a southwest facing slope at 1,015 feet in elevation. Two other blocks are used from 'Paradiso', on the lower elevations contributing to more power. The wine is 100% destemmed and fermented in concrete tanks with 60 days of maceration on skins and frequent punch downs. It is then racked into primarily seasoned barriques and botti for 30 months prior to bottling.” Importer note
“Aromatic, offering floral, licorice, tar and spice notes surrounding a core of cherry. The fruit is more prominent on the palate, where accents of mint and leather also peek through. On the elegant side, with fine balance and length.” WS
“Plums, hazelnuts and dried flowers follow through to a medium to full body, round and creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. Really pretty and balanced.” JS
“Here's a great value for Nebbiolo watchers. The Ellena Giuseppe 2016 Barolo del Comune di La Morra shows the precision and focus of the vintage with soft tannins, bright fruit flavors and balanced acidity. The bouquet is redolent of wild berry, cassis, tilled earth and blue flower.” WA
