Les Hauts de Milly Rully 1er Cru Les Cloux 2018
Sale $29.99
92 pts Burghound
For those familiar with the stinginess of Burghound reviews, that 92 pt review jumps out, doesn't it? There are $200+ bottles that don't have that level...
Ok... so let's get to it... this is an alternate label for Domaine Jaeger-Defaix, the project of Didier Defaix and his wife Helene Jaeger. Didier is the son of Bernard Defaix, and manages his father's eponymous and highly regarded vineyards. You may recall this is also an alternate label for that winery. Why the alternate label? More market coverage! And, for us, we can offer at a much lower price than the Jaeger-Defaix wines. Currently, the Jaeger-Defaix Les Cloux would COST ME $31.99 from the distributor. I am selling the same wine here for less than wholesale!
Rully is situated in the north of the Côte Chalonnaise. Daytime temperatures are warmer here than in the Côte de Beaune or Côte de Nuits and the wines are therefore slightly richer with a creamy texture and immediate charm and appeal. But Les Cloux is situated on the upper slopes, which allows the vines to have excellent exposure to the sun, and cooler nighttime temperatures, resulting in vibrant, balanced acidity.100% barrel / 20% 1 year-old barrels. It is redolent with aromas of acacia and honeysuckle, as well as lemon and white peach. Flavors of the same along with green apple and spiced pear blend on the luxurious mouthfeel. I love this quote from the winery, “It has both the coolness and the polish of marble.” Yeah… that sounds perfect! Chicken with morels would be perfect here.
"A smoky broad-ranging nose is comprised by notes of mineral reduction, spiced apple, lemon zest and a hint of herbal tea, all of which is trimmed in relatively generous wood. The sleek and nicely detailed medium weight flavors possess more refinement on the citrusy and slightly firmer finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. I very much like the texture, and this is altogether lovely - worth checking out." BH
