Alcee Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux 2016
Sale 27.99
91 pts Wine Advocate / 91 pts Vinous
92% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc. “Just as it was from barrel, the 2016 Alcée is rich, sumptuous and hedonistic. Red plum, dried herb, cherry, spice, tobacco and iron give the 2016 notable aromatic and flavor complexity. The interplay of dense fruit and persistent tannins makes for a compelling wine that delivers serious intensity at its level. The 2016 is super-ripe and potent, but has enough brightness and overall energy to make for a very complete wine.” Vinous
“Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Alcee leaps from the glass with notes of blueberry compote, kirsch and black tea plus hints of cigar boxes and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, it completely coats the palate with perfumed red and black fruits framed by firm, grainy tannins, finishing with great length.” WA
Petit Ducru Beaucaillou St. Julien 2018 (Formerly Lalande-Borie) (11 bottles)
Sale $47.99
92-94 pts Wine Enthusiast / 93 pts James Suckling
60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon “The tannins are solid, concentrated and powerfully intense. The acidity is astonishing and bright, powering the black currant flavor forward. The wine is precise and beautifully structured.” WE “Attractive, ripe cabernet fruit on the nose, this has aromas of blackberries and blueberries with a dark, slate-like, stony edge. The palate is very succulent and has good intensity of purple berries and assertive, grainy tannins that really power into the finish. This is a great value 2016 St.-Julien.” JS
Malescot St. Exupery Margaux 2014 (9 bottles)
Sale $79.99
96 pts James Suckling / 93+ pts Vinous It’s Margaux… possibly the sexiest of the Left Bank appellations. And a wine so drop dead sexy that the winery doesn't have anything on their website but an address. Rock star indeed! “Dark currants and berries with walnuts on the nose. Follows through to a full body, integrated tannins and a gorgeous finish. Exciting. Wow.” "The 2014 Malescot Saint Exupéry is powerful, rich and explosive. One of the more exuberant, flamboyant Margaux that readers will come across, the Malescot exudes serious depth and intensity. Black cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and dark spice meld into the deep, succulent finish." VM
La Gravette de Certain Pomerol 2016 (8 bottles)
Sale $89.99
95 pts Wine Advocate / 95 pts Jeb Dunnuck
This is the second wine from the famed Vieux Chateau Certain. “Made up of 75% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 La Gravette de Certan has a deep garnet-purple color and features lovely redcurrants, black raspberries and black cherries notes with a beautiful floral background of lavender and rose hip tea plus suggestions of sandalwood, cinnamon stick and menthol. Medium-bodied, refreshing, elegant and beautifully seamless, it offers layers of perfumed red and black fruits with a satiny texture and very impressive length.”
Troplong Mondot St. Emilion 2015 (6 bottles)
Sale $139.99
99 pts Jeb Dunnuck / 98 pts James Suckling / 97 pts Vinous
“A wine I was able to taste on multiple occasions, the 2015 Troplong Mondot is a tour de force that readers need to snatch up. This cuvee comes from the cool, clay and limestone soils on the upper plateau (it’s the highest point in the appellation) and is a blend of 92% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc, harvest between September 30th and October 21st, that was brought up in 85% new French oak. Sporting a deep, inky color as well as a sensational bouquet of creme de cassis, blackberry, toasted spice, licorice and spring flowers, it’s another huge wine from this estate that has perfect balance between its fruit, oak and tannin, a stacked mid-palate, and an incredible finish. I wrote "crazy good" more than once in my notes. It has enough fruit and texture to drink nicely even today, yet needs 4-5 years of cellaring and will keep for two to three decades. It's one of the great wines of the vintage.” JD
Troplong Mondot St. Emilion 2017 (10 bottles)
Sale $117.99
98+ pts Vinous / 96 pts Decanter – “The 2017 Troplong Mondot is stunning, just as it was en primeur. Rich and ample, yet endowed with striking energy as well, the 2017 is the first vintage made by new CEO Aymeric de Gironde and consulting winemaker Thomas Duclos. The 2017 takes hold of all the senses and never lets up. All of the power that is typical of this site is evident, it seems to come so naturally, and yet picking earlier and then using a lighter hand in the cellar yielded a Troplong of uncommon energy and vibrancy. The 2017 has been nothing short of thrilling on the four occasions I have tasted it from bottle so far. What a wine!” Vinou |
