Why the huge deal? Well, unfortunately winemaker/owner Chad Alexander picked a bad year to launch his new winery. With over 30 years of experience throughout Napa Valley, he settled in Paso Robles to craft top-end Cabernet Sauvignon. Just bad timing…

On receiving the sample, I couldn’t find the pricing, so I just looked online. $42? Well, we don’t move tons at that price point, but hey, I’ll enjoy it with a nice steak and maybe we will grab a dozen cases if it sings. A bottle and a couple of steaks for me and my beautiful redheaded bride later, we were both sold. I figured $35 would be the selling price, and for that, it was quite a nice bottle of wine.

What impressed me was how “serious” the wine was, while at the same time being delicious and ready to drink. 15% Syrah adds aromatic complexity and depth to the Cabernet. I’ve said it before and will say it again, there are simply not enough wineries blending Syrah with Cab. The results are incredible. Anyway, the wine is “serious” in its intense and complex blue and blackberry fruit flavors, along with earthy spices and fine tannins. Yet, the tannins are already integrated in the wine, making it ready to drink now. A fabulous combo!

I told the supplier I was good for 7-10 cases, depending on the price. He gave me the price… I double checked to make sure the first digit wasn’t mis-typed…  no? Really? I promptly ordered a pallet of 60 cases. To start. Because I think you will all be back for more!
