“Caparsa's 2017 Chianti Classico is an absolute joy to taste.” – Antonio Galloni
The wines of Caparsa were a revelation for us last year, a new producer for us with beautiful Chianti Classicos that quickly became favorites for our customers and team members alike. We sold through our allocations quickly and have been begging for more ever since. Finally the 2017s have arrived and we have another couple of fantastic wines from this small producer “that capture the best the vintage has to offer.”

Caparsa is a tiny organically farmed 12 hectare estate located in Radda, the heart of Chianti Classico. Paolo Confierno and his son Filippo farm this small property that was first planted by Paolo’s parents in the 1960s, long before a wave of new Chianti Classico producers emerged onto the market in the late 1990s. Farming and winemaking is still very traditional at Caparsa, they’re very much rooted in the old-school. Their vineyards are certified organic, and fermentations are spontaneous using only indigenous yeasts. Their wines reflect this with natural balance, these are exceptionally pure bright wines that are just delicious to drink. This Chianti Classico is 100% Sangiovese aged entirely in concrete tanks for 18 months prior to release. A classically styled Chianti under $25, this is an absolute do not miss for Tuscan red fans!
“Mid crimson. Pretty nose of garden herbs, nutmeg and cherry in equal measure. Succulent cherry fruit and firm tannins turning rather dry on the finish. Brisk acidity. Begs for steak.” – Jancis Robinson
“Caparsa's 2017 Chianti Classico is an absolute joy to taste. Succulent dark red cherry, mint, game, licorice and spice all flesh out in this super-expressive Chianti Classico. Open knit and inviting, the 2017 has both the depth and structure to drink well for a number of years. It is a terrific effort from Caparsa and a real overachiever in its peer group.” Antonio Galloni, Vinous
