A blend of 88% Syrah, 6% Grenache, 4% Mourvedre, 2% Viognier (co-fermented with the Syrah). Approximately 10% of the fruit was fermented whole cluster, contributing earthy, savory notes and aromas that compliment the dense, rich powerful fruit of this Washington Syrah. Post fermentation the wine was aged in barrel, mostly french and used. The ageing in barrel brings oxygen to the wine slowly over time, rounding off the edges without masking the purity of the fruit. This wine is a power house, offering an intense nose of dark cherry, cocoa, vanilla and hints of black truffles. An unctuous mouthfeel follows, rich and flavouful with candied plum, cherry pie and vanilla. Great with air now, and well built with great tannin structure and the ability to age for another 5 years or more (that's if you can keep your hands off it that long). A seamless example of a fine Washington state Syrah that is not to be missed. Oh man... would this be killer with some ribs! Am I the only one who tailgates with wine? 'Cause this would rock with a tailgate!
"Mainly Syrah from a handful of sites in the Columbia Valley, the 2018 Syrah The Pundit Columbia Valley sports a vivid purple hue to go with gorgeous blackberry and black raspberry fruit as well as notes of flowers, peppery herbs, and assorted spices. Medium to full-bodied, it has terrific overall balance and no hard edges, with a kiss of chalky minerality on the finish." JD
