Why do we love it so much? Because when it is above 80 degrees outside and you take a bottle of this wine out of your fridge, you have perfect refreshment. The Spinetta Rosé Di Casanova is absolutely sensational, and it goes down easier than water! Setting a new standard in the rosé category, this Tuscan rosé boasts tart cherry, pomegranate and honeysuckle flavors and aromas. It is a complex wine that, unlike most rosés, can be enjoyed now as well as aged for a few years. Wonderful crisp acidity is the hallmark that makes this rosé a standout. 50% Sangiovese, 50% Prugnolo Gentile (a Sangiovese clone)
La Spinetta may be most famous for making incredible, age-worthy Nebbiolo based wines from Barolo and Barbaresco, but they are certainly not a one trick pony. Giorgio Rivetti makes all of the La Spinetta wines with the intention of having them express unique character of the region. They use all native yeasts and hand-picked grapes so that the Rosé di Casanova displays a distinctly Tuscan nose and stony texture. They use a very short skin contact time to maintain elegance along with 3 months of lees contact to add some power and depth. Fans of Provence style wine will enjoy this unique wine with similar food pairings. Herbed chicken, white fish, summer salads, and goat cheeses are just the start. This really seems to go with everything…especially NC heat and humidity!
And why the rhino on the label? Because Rivetti really likes the work of German artist Albrecht Dürer. That's why.
"From year to year, the Il Rosé di Casanova continues to impress, and the 2020 is no different. Here I’m finding a contrasting blend of spiced citrus and tart apples offset by wild herbs and crushed stone. It’s silky in feel yet lifted and spry, casting ripe orchard fruits and inner herbal tones across a wave of vibrant acidity. A lingering note of salinity and hints of lemon peel keep tension high throughout the mouthwatering finale." Vinous
