Pretty simple, right? After 15 months of being shuttered, Sam has the Hillsborough Wine Station up and running and ready for you! So come on by and - gasp - taste some wine before you buy! Current offerings are below (1 oz / 2 oz / 4 oz pours): (Note: Chapel Hill Enomatic is still closed. Some repairs are needed.)
Raig de Raim Blanco 2019 – $1.25/$2.50/$5.00 “Raig de Raïm illuminates Garnacha Blanca’s well-balanced, textured acidity as well as the exotic floral and savory herbal notes that make it so delicious. Youthful white wine with pale lemon hue. Enticingly aromatic with hints of yellow apple, Bosc pear and tropical pineapple combine with floral notes of acacia and herbal notes of wild thyme and rosemary. Round in mouth with well-balanced acidity and lingering finish." Craggy Range Sauvignon Blanc 2020 – $1.75/$3.50/$7.00 – 93 pts Vinous Media “Lovely sinew, offering tension and precision from start to finish, and providing purpose and long length. There are subtle steely aromas that sit in the green and citrus spectrum rather than overt tropical fruit; expect honeydew melon, grass, beeswax and lemon flavors. Very nicely done.” Delta Chardonnay 2020 - $1.25/$2.50/$5.00 “Oaked, but not oaky, the fruit shines prominently. Fresh picked golden delicious apple, tangerine, Bartlett pear, with some creme caramel and vanilla bean. Creamy and textured on the tongue, really polished and pure with just enough acidity to keep things delicate and bright. “ Tiberio Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2020 – $1.50/$3.00/$6.00 – 91 pts Vinous Media “The 2020 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo lifts up, more savory than sweet and decidedly floral. Dusty dried flowers and incense give way to hints of crushed raw almonds. Its round textures find balance, as a wave of brisk acids and mineral-tinged orchard fruits cascade across the palate. A gentle tug of citrus and hints of peach linger.” Palazzino “La Casina Girasole” 2018 – $1.00/$2.00/$4.00 “Always a crowd-pleaser, the Palazzino Rosso offers a combination of fruit, earth and minerality that is the hallmark of great Chianti Classico. Juicy notes of Morello cherries and plums are supported by notes of anise, sweet thyme and a whiff of truffle before diving back into more dark red fruit and a mouthwatering finish.” Ver Sacrum GSM 2018 – $1.25/$2.50/$5.00 – 93 pts Wine Advocate "The pale and delicate 2018 GSM was produced with 70% Garnacha and 15% each Syrah and Monastrell from a field blend in Los Chacayes in the Valle de Uco. It feels quite different from most GSM blends produced in Argentina—it's more floral and fresher, with notes of orange peel, a velvety texture and very fine tannins. This is excellent, and the price merits a serious recommendation. Araucano Humo Blanco Pinot Noir 2019 - $1.50/$3.00/$6.00 – 91 Pts Vinous Media “This biodynamically certified Pinot Noir was cleverly aged, 50% in oak and the rest in lees for three months, and offers aromas of strawberry yogurt, mushroom and earth. Very expressive and dry, with a depth of flavor. The tannins fit a little tightly, as though they were a size too small, but remain delicate.” Hewitson “Baby Bush” Mouvedre 2019 – $1.50/$3.00/$6.00 “Aromas of blackberry and amarena cherry waft from the glass, leading into rich dark fruits on the palate, without any of that stemmy funk that Mouvedre can have. Integrated, smooth tannins finish this one out with a touch of sasparilla, spice, and chocolate liqueur that add complexity and interest to a wine that can stand up to most meals.” Chateau Guiot Rose 2020 – $1.50/$3.00/$6.00 “80% Grenache / 20% Syrah. This is the essence of French rose. Intense aromas of wild flowers, cherries and peach lead into a pale pink gem offering loads of cherry, raspberry and peach flavors, all balanced by vibrant acidity and fine minerality.” Guillame Gonnet Cotes du Rhone Rose “Le Reveur” 2020 -$1.50/$3.00/$6.00 “Grown almost exclusively in Fronton this black-skinned highly aromatic grape brings gorgeous aromas of white flowers, violets, raspberries, and citrus. A fruit filled palate follows, with plenty of wild berries, and hints of grapefruit zest. Delicate yet well-structured with a little spice and fresh minerals leading into a long finish.” Chateau Clamens Fronton Rose 2020 - $1.50/$3.00/$6.00 “50% grenache, 50% Cinsault from 30 year-old vines. The Cinsault is what does it for me… adding notes of watermelon and citrus to Grenache’s cherry and raspberry. The balance makes for a brisk, refreshing style, perfectly suited for drinking on its own.” |
