Hiedler Riesling Steinhaus 2019
Sale $27.99
95 pts Wine Enthusiast / 95 pts James Suckling / 93 pts Falstaff
The wines from Weingut Hiedler have been some of my favorite, and the Riesling Steinhaus has been the one I drink the most of. As in, I buy it by the case. The “house style” is typically rich, luscious and voluptuous. Combined with bright acidity and crystal-clear flavors, I find them eminently delicious to drink. Now, the next generation, Lugwig Hiedler Jr., is getting more involved and he has a preference for more just a little more racy wines. Not a wholesale change in style, but perhaps just a little fine-tuning. The result is still decidedly “Hiedler”… yet with a bit more refinement.
The result is the best Steinhaus I have had.
“Light green-yellow, silver reflections. Fresh peach fruit underlaid with a hint of lime zest, nuances of meadow herbs, a little mango. Juicy, elegant, firm texture, white stone fruit nuances, acid structure rich in finesse, lemony touch, salty aftertaste, a lively accompaniment to dishes.” Falstaff
“Beautiful scent of limes and peaches, some lilac, with air also white tropical fruit joins the mix, the cool nose is finely nuanced and highly mineral; on the palate the fruit character is bundled, peach, apple, also lemongrass and mint, a hint of smoky spice in the background, lively acidity, crystalline texture, pure minerality. Fantastic aging potential!” winery note
“A serious wine with a very firm mineral core and plenty of lemon and lime character. Very long finish. “ JS
