Let’s take a look-see at some others with similar press from the 2019 vintage…
Meo-Camuzet Corton Clos Rognet 2019 - $459 (92-94 pts Burghound)
Well, let's just stop there, shall we? Others are in the $150-$300 range and up...
So… what? You can get three or four of these for the price of one?
Here’s what you need to know about the wine… Ambroise produces a ripe, extracted style, with awesome power, concentration and intensity. At present, the wine is just a blockbuster – full of dark currant and blackberry fruit along with anise and other earthy flavors. The tannins are packed and stacked, begging to be decanter for a few hours, or, better yet, left alone for 7+ years to come together.
Maybe one now? One in 7 years? One in 12? Another in 15? This will drink for at least 20 years…
And I only have 48 bottles… so speak up if you want some!
"A more subtle but not invisible application of wood surrounds aromas of plum, cassis, wood toast and a sauvage hint. The dense, even plush broad-shouldered flavors possess both fine richness and a beguiling vibrancy, all wrapped in a beautifully long finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth." BH
"The 2019 Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru, aged in 100% new oak, is deep in color. It has a well-defined bouquet that shows more delineation than the Clos Vougeot, offering pure dark berry fruit and violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with gently grippy tannins. Good extraction here – not too much, but enough to create a dense and voluminous Corton. Layers of lightly spiced black fruit on the finish. Good potential." VM
