Arriving Friday. If you placed an initial order, there is no need to reply. I have a few bottles left of each, so I figured I would send back out...
“This Vertus domaine numbers among my favorite addresses on the Côte de Blancs, and the Doyard family’s vinous, incisive Champagnes deserve a place in any well-stocked cellar. Deep, concentrated and characterful, everything that bears the Doyard label is well worth serious attention.” William Kelley, Wine Advocate
"The domaine employs organic farming in the vines, with most of the vineyards worked by horse. Yields are kept very low, adding to the concentrated intensity that defines the estate’s style. In the cellar, state of the art double-banked Coquard PAI presses are employed to get the cleanest and most delicate juice possible and every parcel is vinified separately in barrel. All of the wines undergo very long lees aging before disgorgement — a minimum of 48 months on all cuvées — which truly sets them apart from much of Champagne and is a key component to achieve the incredible complexity and depth that is found throughout their magnificent lineup." Doyard "Les Lumieres" Grand Cru Extra Brut 2008
Sale $319.99

"Disgorged over a year ago with 0.8 grams per liter dosage, the 2008 Extra-Brut Grand Cru Les Lumières is a striking Champagne, unwinding in the glass with scents of pear, citrus oil, freshly baked bread, mandarin orange, almonds and buttery pastry. Full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's layered and muscular, with an immensely concentrated core of fruit, racy acids and a long, resonant finish. As I've written before, this cuvée is a blend of first-press juice: two-thirds Chardonnay from Mesnil-sur-Oger and one-third Pinot Noir from prime holdings in Aÿ." WA

This is the latest release... versus what you may see online at lower prices that are based on the not so hot 2011 vintage...
"The forthcoming release of Doyard's NV Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Non Dosé Révolution is based on the 2013 vintage and was disgorged in May 2020. Unfurling in the glass with scents of pear, warm pastry, apricot, toasted almonds and citrus oil, it's full-bodied, layered and elegantly muscular, with a deep and multidimensional core, racy acids and a long, precise finish. This is an especially elegant, refined rendition of Révolution, and it will be well worth following over time." WA<

"Disgorged in May 2020 with two grams per liter dosage, the 2012 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is fabulous, bursting from the glass with notes of smoky pear, white flowers, walnuts and baking spices. Derived predominantly from holdings in Avize, it's full-bodied, layered and immensely concentrated, with a tightly wound, structured core and racy acid spine that mark it out as emphatically built for the long haul." Doyard "Clos de l'Abbaye" 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra-Brut 2015
Sale $119.99
96 pts Wine Advocate for 2014 - but 2015 is an even better vintage!!!
3 g/l dosage. "The Clos de l'Abbaye consists of a half hectare parcel of Chardonnay, completely isolated and planted in 1956. Its location and its very limestone soil give it a very high precocity. The highly environmentally friendly driving method excludes any chemical intake and aims for low yield (35 to 40 Hl/Hectare). Only juices from the first press are vinified under wood, without chaptalisation or research of malolactic fermentation. 1250 bottles constitute the total production of this 2012 vintage." winery note
"Disgorged in May 2020 with 2.4 grams per liter dosage, the 2014 Extra-Brut Premier Cru Clos de l'Abbaye is brilliant, unwinding to reveal notes of citrus oil, crisp Anjou pear, mandarin orange, pomelo, walnuts and fresh pastry. Full-bodied, vinous and layered, it's deep and concentrated, framed by racy acids and chalky structuring dry extract. It's a serious, muscular Champagne that's long and intense. As usual, this cuvée derives from a walled 0.4-hectare plot of 60-year-old cordon-pruned vines just behind the winery in Vertus, and only the first and second "serres" of the press are used." WA
Doyard "Oeil de Perdrix" Rose Grand Cru Extra Brut 2015
Sale $119.99
95 pts Wine Advocate
75% Pinot Noir / 25% Chardonnay. "This vintage has its origins and its name from the ancient times (18th and early 19th century). The impossibility of artificially "discoloring" the juices of black grapes led to the development of a Champagne with a dress tainted with an "Eye". This one referred to a Champagne slightly tinged with pink, like an Eye of Perdrix. It is a "rosé" of press: an authentic champagne, combining freshness, elegance, vinosity, length, with a complex nose, kindly borrowed from aromas of red fruits." winery note
"Disgorged in February 2020 with three grams per liter dosage, Doyard's 2015 Extra-Brut Grand Cru Millésimé Œil de Perdrix mingles notes of pear, white flowers and peach with hints of plums, sweet red berries and toasted almonds. Full-bodied, layered and vinous, with a deep and concentrated core structured around lively acids and superb structuring dry extract, it's complemented by a pillowy mousse." WA |
