[Sam] I really appreciate when a bottle of wine hits the reset button in my brain, and Rioja has always helped me recenter myself after more chaotic days. There’s something in that combination of big fruit flavor and study oak that puts me in the best mood regardless of where I was at 5 minutes ago. The Marques del Silvo is no exception- just an expertly crafted wine built to give you a moment to exhale.

By now I’d wager y’all have realized that, as far as daily drinkers go, I appreciate a wine that meets me where I’m at, and that’s what I truly appreciate here. At first sip, the Marques is a sunburst of red fruit and vanilla and spice- ripe cherry and currant in perfect form along some deep, dark chocolate flavors. But, as you get deeper in, you’ll pick up on some discrete anise and baking spice notes that elevate the fruit and show off the complexity developed over 30 months in a combination of toasted French and American oak and years on its side maturing.

Rioja is one of my favorite pairing wines because it’s just so dang intuitive. Big meat dishes, roasted mushroom, anything that likes big flavors, and you’re aces! I’ve been blessed with a surplus of venison of late, and had this alongside some red beans and rice with venison kielbasa. But feel free to substitute whatever sausage you have!
