Only about 6% of the Rhone Valley’s wines are white, and most never leave the region. Which is a shame because they are delicious! There are definite similarities with the great whites of Burgundy, as they possess a fair bit of weight, balanced by vibrant acidity and the ability to age for decades. The flavor profiles are, of course, very different… but if you enjoy Burgundy, I’d wager you will enjoy these!
35% Roussane, 30% Grenache Blanc, 20% Clairette and 15% Bourboulenc fermented and aged in a huge wooden vat (2,500 Liters – 11 times the size of a normal barrel!)
“Despite exhibiting a certain honeyed richness, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Renaissance Blanc finishes clean and refreshing. It's a delicate balance to strike in a warm year, but this is full-bodied and opulent without being overbearing, overflowing with notes of ripe pear and melon, but also elements suggestive of lemon and fennel fronds.” WA
“Rich but refined, rather than showy, with a creamy-edged mix of white peach and yellow apple fruit entwined with chamomile, honeysuckle and acacia notes. Finish is sneakily long. Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette and Bourboulenc. Drink now through 2023.” WS
“Fermented then aged in tronconic wooden vats. Very much apricot in flavour and aroma. Really searching and mineral on the palate with a great sense of focus and precision. Floral notes dip in and out. Unforced, just a naturally strong expression.” Decanter
