Over the years, many of you have heard me talk about the NC Children's Hospital and the great work they do. You know, the hospital over in Chapel Hill that takes care of kids from all over the state of North Carolina? Yep, all of them. This is the state’s Children’s Hospital – not a Chapel Hill thing. They treat every child, regardless of insurance or ability to pay. And while the state provides the funds to keep the lights on, there is a great need for funds to support programs state funding does not completely. Especially now.
Like school. Yep, today I am asking you to consider making a donation to help patients of the Children's Hospital do homework.
Sounds cruel at first, right? I mean these kids are sick... and now we want to make them do homework?
Here's the thing... these patients are in the hospital for a long time receiving treatment. And you know what they want most when they are done?
To be normal. To go back to their life the way it was before they got sick. Not a grade behind. Or having to attend summer school. Or switch classes because they are behind.
The good news is the UNC Hospital School is ramping up a return to in-person learning. But right now, supplies are critically low. It's difficult to stock enough because most school supplies like notebooks, pencils, calculators, or teaching materials must be single-use items only in order to control the spread of germs and viruses.
I know you get asked by hundreds of people a year to donate. And there isn’t enough money to fund every good cause. So I thank you for considering this one.
