Sometimes I feel a little bad for Ribera del Duero. Often overshadowed by it’s cousin Rioja to the East, it seems like it’s never gotten the respect it deserves. But, today I’m putting one of my new favorites in the sun, and I can’t wait for you to try it! Damana Crianza 2016

This is not a wine that beats around the bush- but is upfront with its big flavors and unabashed in it’s style.
The year in oak does wonders to give structure here too. With a blend of 90% French to 10% American, there’s more savory notes as opposed the vanilla normally seen in American-Centric Riojas. It’s a little lighter on its feet too, with bright acidity that belies its big Spanish personality. I was a little shocked that it clocked in at 14.5% AB on account of it just feel so surprisingly refreshing.
With that profile, this is ideal weeknight warrior wine. Simple, flexible, but not short on flavor. It meshes well with basically anything you can throw at it too- roasted mushrooms or squash, any and all meat, and especially anything off the grill. I actually threw together a big plate of fajitas with this, and couldn’t have been happier!
