100% Frappato from the Western Coast of Sicily, Caruso & Minini might as well have just bottled the essence of the Mediterranean Summer. It’s fresh, with bright pops of cherry and strawberry. There’s a refreshing acidity on the finish, but what really makes this wine is this lovely hint of salinity. It’s impressively quenching, reminding me of the best Roses of Provence but with a Sicilian twist.
The Flamingo on the label is a nod to Frappo’s place of origin in the hills above Lo Stagnone A salt marsh, and nature preserve, the lagoon is a stop for flamingos during their migration! Lo Stagone also creates a unique microclimate, with incredible winds that sweep up the hills into the vines and rich mineral soils.
While refreshing and satisfying as a solo act, this wine loves to be partnered with food! You can use it as a starter alongside a charcuterie board with prosciutto-wrapped cantaloupe, but where this wine really shines is with seafood! Tuna Carpaccio, Sushi, or fish tacos are all great options. But if you really want to put the work in, a fritto misto with shrimp, squid, and fresh zucchini from the farmers market is the ideal pairing. Grab a plate, pop the cork, and you’ll think you’re in Sicily!
