THIS… as in THIS wine… THIS is why Rioja is still the source for some of the world’s most staggering, mind-blowing values.
Where else can you find a wine that is aged for 14 months in NEW French oak barrels, then bottle-aged for another 2 years before being shipped? Okay, that’s actually not too hard. But at $15.99 per bottle? With legit 90 pt-level quality?
Yeah, when you find it, let me know. Till then, I’m gonna rock this baby!
90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano from more than 40 year-old vines! Forty year-old vines? Again, for $14.99? Seriously?
Explosive aromas of crushed raspberry, lavender, rosemary, violet, smoke and coffee lead into an incomparably smooth, rounded mouthful of wine. That’s the long aging, folks. No substitute! Velvety texture, replete with flavors of red berries and hints of minerals and oak, leads into a long, smooth finish. The winery recommends serving with “Iberico bellota ham, roasted lamb, beef wellington, fillet mignon, suckling pig and all important dishes.”
Heck, yeah! “All important dishes!”
Tell ya what… pick up some lamb chops and fire up the grill… toss on some potato wedges and thick slices of squash and onion. Boom. Delish!
Wine Enthusiast: 94 Points
"This dark-garnet-colored wine offers a bouquet of black currant, anisette and sage. Blackberry, cassis, dark-chocolate, violet and clove flavors are joined by a note of marjoram. Tannins start out feather light, slowly fill the palate, and linger for a while." — Mike DeSimone
