Wondering what style of Rioja you are getting with this wine? Decanter sums it up perfectly…
“Supple, juicy, red-fruit tangy and endlessly drinkable, Artuke's everyday Rioja is about as far from the old and oaky Rioja stereotype as it's possible to get…” Decanter
Add to that the effusive praise of Wine Advocate and Tim Atkin…
“One of the most exciting vignerons of the region … the wines show the character of the place where they are born: true terroir wines.” - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate
“Always one of Rioja’s great bargains, this wonderfully juicy cuvée… is a classic…” – Tim Atkin, Master of Wine
A blend of 95% Tempranillo with 5% Viura from vines planted as far back as 1902! The fruit was meticulously hand-harvested and sorted. Winemaking is very much of the old-school, utilizing only native yeasts for whole cluster and whole berry fermentations, just the way these wines were made 200 years ago. Arturo and Kike use concrete tanks for maturation, introducing oxygen gradually but preserving the purity and freshness of the fruit. The results are superb. This juicy Tempranillo bounces from the glass with bright red berry aromas and notes of chalky clay minerals. Silky pure and ultra-fine on the palate, packed with summer red fruits, medium-bodied and texturally superior to other Riojas I taste at more than three times the price. It’s perfect at home as a stand alone glass or two after a long day and makes for a brilliant wine for food pairings too. Grilled meats, pasta dishes, roasted veg and poultry, seared Tuna even. As Tim Atkin puts it, this is “unwooded Rioja at its individual best.” Don’t miss it.
Decanter: 91 Points
“A juicy, delicious charmer, this is very typical of the winemaking tradition in this part of Rioja: unoaked, fermented in concrete and with carbonic maceration. The grapes come from Baños de Ebro, the site of brothers Arturo and Kike de Miguel’s family winery. They also work in the surrounding villages: seek out their distinctive and distinguished single vineyard wines. Great value.” Decanter
Wine Advocate: 91+ Points
"2021 was a healthy vintage, and the carbonic maceration red 2021 Artuke feels better than ever, with explosive floral and red berry aromas. Produced with grapes from the village of Baños de Ebro, it is mostly Tempranillo with some 5% white Viura; it has 13.5% alcohol and a velvety texture and almost unnoticeable tannins. Velvety after a few months in concrete. It was bottled unoaked. 75,000 bottles produced."
